Hello everyone - I am a new poster but have been reading the boards for quite a while. I have come to respect a lot of the posters on here who provide solid analysis and rationale with their handicapping day in and day out. Although I do bet baseball, football is my primary sport and figured what better reason for my innaugural post than Opening week of the NFL season. I am mostly a value oriented player focusing on moderate underdogs on the moneyline.
With all that said here are three games that look really interesting to me and I believe further warrant more research and a closer look as the week wears on. All thoughts and comments are welcome:
BALTIMORE RAVENS (+6) - the Joey Porter shooting cannot help but distract the Steelers this week; moreover, I watched the Ravens last preseason game against the NYGiants and their rookie starting QB was pretty damn impressive. I believe Billick can outcoach Cowher and with that Raven defense capable of pitching a shutout any given game, the six points look very appealing in this one.
ATLANTA FALCONS (+2) - I believe the oddsmakers have overadjusted the line in this one to overcompensate for the loss of Michael Vick. The Falcons are a damn good team with or without Vick. Stout defense, excellent special teams and run the ball over and over with Dunn and they could definitely stay with the Cowboys. Theres also the old handicapping of a team rallying around the loss of a fallen leader which I believe the Falcons will do. The Dirty Birds win this one outright.
INDIANNAPOLIS COLTS (PK) - The Colts are the better team period. Manning and Harrison and E.James. Browns mired in qb controversy all preseason long. The Colts have been waiting for 8 months to play a meaningful game to get the taste of that 41-00 pasting at the hands of the NY Jets in last years play-offs. Colts will be on a mission in this one. Take the Colts.
As I stated earlier Im happy to be here and would love to hear your opinions and/or views on these games. Thanks
Dewey Tomko
